I saw an interesting van the other day driving about - tagline was
Rescuing Food for Charities
tonight I saw a shop packing up their leftover food by dumping them into bin bags.  I asked the cashier did she know charities pick up food at the end of the day but she said boss says to throw it out.  5 mins before that they were still selling buns at $2 each.
So when I got home I goggled the phrase and found the right organisation fairly quickly, sent them an email and ate my dinner.

If any of you like dumpstering I suggest check out the World Square throw-out pile if you can find it.  Most of their shops close by 9pm on a Thursday leaving just the supermarket and upstairs restaurants open until later.

If you ever spot another business just chucking food out and don't need it yourself tell these peeps  OzHarvest
they do the organising.

A long time ago when I used to work at Coles on the Gold Coast whilst I was at high school, my boyfriend lived on one of those 'mini farms just outside of town with horses and chickens' type properties. So his mum had more eggs from the chickens than the family could ever eat or ever give away - and even less egg cartons to put them in when she did find people to give them to.

I approached the manager of Coles and asked if I could have the EMPTY egg cartons from the docking bay (brand new, eggs emptied out for whatever reason, no stains - about to be thrown in the bin, not even the recycle bin) and the answer was "no".

I couldn't even take EMPTY freakin' egg cartons, the amount of waste going on in this world in phenomenally ridiculous. That M&S (Marks & Spencer) here in the UK throw all of their food out BEFORE the close of day trading and the food is "display until XX", with XX being TODAY and the store hasn't even closed for the night. Insane

These companies who won't give their perfectly fine food to charities because allegedly the homeless become "dependent upon the give aways" - f**king bulls**t. The world is f**king insane.

Rant over. Mmmph
